Vick: Get At Me Dawg!!!

Pic Courtesy of Sports Illustrated:

Your tired of it, we know...but let's be serious, of all the media attention it's been given, how much of the coverage can you say has taught you something worth educated?...Figures...let us begin!

I had just finished reading this the other day, and I thought this article was fuckin' great...it touched on a lot of things I agree upon and some points that was well worth the mentioning. I believe in short, the writer was simply trying to convey this: "Ya'll mufuckas is Buggin'".

American culture celebrates violent sports--especially football--and is insensitive to the consequences that the weekly scrum has on the bodies and minds of its players. We love a sport where any given play can be a player's last. We accept that after 44-year-old former Philadelphia Eagle Andre Waters committed suicide, the autopsy revealed that his brain resembled someone with early-stage Alzheimer's due to repeated concussions. We ignore that a Hall of Fame running back, the once-unstoppable Earl Campbell, can barely get out of a car without assistance. We forget that Johnny Unitas, the greatest quarterback to play the game, couldn't grip a football by the time of his death.

But in Vick's case, when this media-massaged package of NFL fury fails to remain safely contained on the field, the sports establishment throws up its hands in horror. I asked one player why some NFL players are attracted to dogfighting, and he said, "It's exciting, it's violent and it's high-impact." That could easily be an ad for the NFL. Another player, when I asked him about dogfighting, called it a case of "trickle-down violence," a pastime in which players make the journey from controlled to controller. - David Zarin

That right there, was brilliant. I've been trying to convey this to people for the last couple weeks or so even in the dog fighting thread in the other section. This shit is beyond behavioral theory or even observation. The shit is full blown human principle that sociologist and anthropologist have acknowledged for years now---that we are a fuckin' violent culture. There's not getting around it, and it's not an American thing, this shit is a universal human characteristic, whether it's categorized as an artistic event such as bull fighting in Latin America and Spain, or considered a simple past-time with Cock-Fighting (no homo) in the islands, it's all the same shit--the principle to win. I am not fucking with anyone who says otherwise. In America, that shit is driven by a capitalistic foundation, everyday we are about the competition, we are about the drive. There's no getting around it. And that shit has birthed many problems including mental illness, so it's not just physical,. And I'm trying to be fair cuz I know what dude talking bout, especially with someone like myself and like many of ya'll that can relate, I'm like 100% fuckin' octane when it comes to sports, and competition, I'm an obscene, ruthless asshole, but I completely know what the writer is conveying.

As far as dogfighting is concerned, I'm going to go about this as equal as possible considering I had a good debate about this with some friends other night. My bias side, the one that owns a pitbull, is saying fuck Vick, let him rot. But in an objective stance the writer has a point and so does a member of our forum...the point that we don't even respect each other. We got enough horrific examples of humans mistreating each other, so yea, this isn't about the dogs. For christ sakes, we can't even fuckin' care for our elders, feed the poor, or raise our children, and these pricks, including PETA got the audacity to fight for this shit? I would gladly stomp any of them protesters with a new pair of Timbs made from an Indonesian underage, enslaved, homeless, abused, Child! I doubt the government really gives a fuck about the dogs, this shit is all politics. But, I can't agree to put humans above anything....I learned that everyone is equal no matter who or what it is. Just because animals don't know any better is no different than the fact that WE DO, BUT we don't give a fuck anyway. I think the whole situation is messed up historically, sociologically and psychologically, that's why even on an objective stance, I am siding with the dogs. Psychologically, dog fighting is nothing more than our extension of our ego's and competitiveness unto the dogs.

For some of you, their just dogs, they were built to fight, or it's in their nature. But really though, your wrong...aggression to fight in a pit against another is not a natural thing, it is not an inate behavior, that shit is a learned and taught conditioned, and don't get it twisted, I ain't trying to put dogs above humans, but clearly in this situation, WE are the reason the breed exist along with numerous others like the Akita, mastiff, etc. For centuries we've been breeding dogs to fight against their choosing and natural instinct for money, for ego, for entertainment, for all the wrong reasons. So as controllers of the situation, I ain't fucking with humans on this one.

And as far as Vick is concerned, more than half of me wants him punished but the other half of me (after rationalizing this with some friends) is saying he still a good person, he just fucked up bad, but I tell you this, a friend of mine is right, dude ain't in my prayers. Me and peoples been talking past couple days and we're pretty sure dude did wonders for his community, for Virginia, for Atlanta, we're pretty sure he bringing money in to family and friends and people overall. Hell, dogfighting is a multi million dollar industry, if not a billion dollars, if anything, dude was feeding closed kin. And yea, I fuck with the writer on some "this is a racist/classist issue" because he's right...before Vick, dogfighting has always existed, and my beef with black people is, ya'll buggin. Before dogfighting reached black culture/hip-hop culture, that shit was a Rich Man's sport, by adopting this shit into the poor man's culture, ya'll added another fuel for imprisonment of the poor....that's why that shit has never been touched publicly before this. I wouldn't be surprised to see white politicians and corporate individuals involved. It ain't no secret...before athletes, this shit has always been a multi-billion dollar industry, how many black males in this country, can throw money around like that? None...that's why this shit ain't nothing but politics since day one. If anything Vick should go to jail for being an idiot. You picked the wackest felony to be involved in. You making millions of dollars for the next couple of years, if anything dude should have got into the weapons transport market.
